Spam is somewhat of a "mystery meat" that is preferred by people who want ease instead of taste (oof!). The idea was taken from after WWII, when ration packs and packaged meats became more mainstream. Spam was often necessary for Filipinos to survive in this period, and Americans brought it with them in the war in the Pacific.
