1) Road Trip: Let's say two friends are meeting at a playground, Mary is already at the park but her
friend Bob needs to get there taking the shortest path possible. Bob has two ways he can go - he
can follow the roads getting to the park - first heading south 5 miles, then heading west 7 miles.
The total distance covered following the roads will be 12 miles. The other way he can get there is
by cutting through some open fields and walk directly to the park. Which way should he choose if
he wants to choose the shortest distance?

Respuesta :

Cutting through open fields. Taking the path is 12 miles. By cutting through it, he is cutting in the middle. Half of 12 is 6. So it would be around 6 miles to get to the park with this shortcut.
Hope this helps, sorry if it doesn’t make sense.
